How to Make Origami Bat Bookmarks

October 4th, 2024

Here’s a kid-favorite bat bookmark origami activity that we sometimes do here at the Nature Center. As far as origami goes, this bat is easy to make and fun for all ages. This craft is also great for any occasion, but is especially popular as we get closer to Halloween.

The bat’s wings stick out from book even when it’s closed. Here’s our example:

Step 1: Start with a square piece of paper of any color. Fold it in half, tip to tip to make a triangle.

Step 2: Fold the long edge of the triangle down about one quarter towards the triangle tip.

Step 3: Fold the edges down so that they line up with the corners of the bottom triangle.

Step 4: Fold the down-turned edges out to the side at right angles.

Step 5: Cut a semicircle from the top. This will allow you to tuck it into a page and use it as a bookmark. Then, cut semicircles form the side wing folds.

Step 6: Add your own artistic flair with markers, paint, paper or googly eyes!

Step 7: Use it to mark your page in your favorite book and enjoy!
